Final Essay

5 years ago, many people
did not know that the number of smart phone is skyrocketing and even elders use
smart phone. Likewise, we do not know the potential possibility of development
of the IT and electronic technologies. My major is electronic engineering, so I
keep closed watch to these articles. The first article is the article from Kim Min
Ji’s blog that “Taxi app competition about to step up a gear in Ireland“ and
the second one is “This little card is why people in Hong Kong don’t carry cash”
from Park Ji Ye. The last one is the article from Lee Hui Gwan that “Electric
Buses in Switzerland Flash Charge in 15 Seconds”.
The first article from Kim
Min Ji is about taxi applications that compete between the Hailo and the Uber
in Ireland. I choose this article because Uber is the hottest applications that
people around the world want to use the application that one tab on phone make
taxi arrive on short time for customers. The article focuses on the competition
of Hailo and Uber in small country, Ireland. However, I want to tell about the
vast change that before these applications help us, there were lots of
difficulties such as taking a taxi, a surcharge. Europe taxies suffer from the
rise of these applications, and they went on a strike demanding ban the
applications. I think taxi companies have to take the change on their industry
and make another solution. Also, there will be evolution on transport system
from gathering these changes.
Next article from Park Ji
Ye is the article that the little card “Octopus” makes Hong Kong citizens bring
just their phones. With the development of electric commerce, we could use
credit card for purchasing whatever we need and transportation also treated by
credit card. Now, the “Octopus” suggests that you do not need to bring purse or
changes for buying something such as lunch, coffee, and even shopping. While it
has a risky finance system that easily hacked by bad hackers, I think it is
cool that more simple life will be open in our lives! “Octopus” is the system
that developed since 1997, so the card company and Hong Kong administrations
can handle the darkness of the smart card and it will be a model for around the
world.
Finally, the last article
from Lee Hui Kwan is an article that electric buses in Switzerland will become
more convenient than before. I choose this article much the same reason with
upper body paragraph that developments of electric technologies give us
convenience. You know the pollution caused by car emissions and the former
electric transportations have ugly lines that ruin the scenery of city. However,
this system solves the environmental problem and will be flexible method that
no needs to set up the ugly line. It is one of the great possibilities that
development of the electric technologies have influence in a good way.
As a conclusion, I certainly argue for the
bright side of the development of the IT and electronic technologies. You may
be threatened from SF movies like “Minority Report” that big data will abuse by
bad organization. However, if many people concerned about the danger of the
technologies in all part of jobs, we can legislate good law for it. While there
are conflict between past and future, there can be harmony of the past and
future too. Therefore, I really hope that people develop the IT and electronic technologies
more seriously, make the joint with former system, and care about the
possibility from their harmony.
